Question 1: Is there a minimum age requirement? Answer: There are many, many organizations represented at the center and they will offer volunteer opportunities all age ranges. A lot of them need help sorting and handing out donations, assignments perfect for the younger members of our community. Thank you SO much for your interest in helping out!!
Question 2: Where is the location? Answer: Granger Recreation Center 1310 W. Avenue F in Garland
Question 3: What are the three components of the center?
Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) - disaster volunteers are registered and referred to local agencies to assist with relief efforts.
At the VRC, volunteers will:
- Complete a registration form and sign a general release of liability statement.
- Accept a referral to an organization needing their services (Referral includes a description of their duties and complete address and contact information for the agency to which they have been referred).
- Receive a form of identification approved by local officials.
- Participate in a safety briefing.
- Agree in writing to follow all safety instructions and directions from supervisors at their work sites.
Client Disaster Services Center- residents impacted by the event can get assistance/access to a multitude of resources and recovery agencies.
Donations Management -Voluntary organizations with established donations structures in place to receive and deliver appropriate donated goods to disaster victims.
Question 4: What about other volunteer opportunities? Answer: Please visit the resource center listed in this post, they will be coordinating volunteers from here on out, thank you!
Question 5: Will all members from a group suffice or should one team member come? Answer: One representative should suffice, thanks again!
Question 6: Is there a number I can contact? Answer: Yes, please call 972-205-2771 to contact the Joint Disaster Resource Management Center.
Question 7: What are the operating hours? Answer: The current operating hours of the center will be from 10 AM-6 PM.
Question 8: Is there more information about the center? Answer: The Cities of Rowlett and Garland have established a Joint Disaster Management Resource Center, located at the Granger Recreation Center, 1310 W. Avenue F in Garland, which will open at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 30. The current resource center operating out of the Rowlett Community Centre will cease operations at some point on Wednesday, once resources have been relocated to the new location. This new joint center will offer volunteers, residents impacted by the tornado, and the organizations offering resources a “one-stop-shop” to connect.
Question 9: What time are the training sessions for volunteers? Answer: Training sessions are held at both 8:15 AM and 1:00 PM.
